I Love to Thrift Shop

I love random rummage sale or thrift store items. My all time favorite is vintage cast iron pans. My second favorite is pyrex or porcelain. If you're a thrifter...keep an eye out for vintage bread pans.

I found this great porcelain bread pan at a thrift store a few years ago. It has an awesome Courier and Ives print on it in what can only be described as 1980's country blue.

Why would this $2.00 item be such a treasure? I have it in my fridge with thawing ground beef, at all times. There are a few reasons I enjoy it, first it makes me smile when I see it. Secondly, it keeps my fridge from being a leaky mess when beef is thawing, even the best packaging can make a mess on a plate and spill when you're taking it out of the refrigerator. Lastly, and maybe the most important...the contents are highly visible.

Over the years I have figured out that I can make a meal in about 10 minutes if there is thawed ground beef. I have passed this knowledge on to my kids and husband. :)

If there is thawed beef and a cast iron pan they can make a burger, taco meat or barbecues in less that 10 minutes. There's no reason to yell "there's nothing to eat". There is plenty to eat, it just requires heat and a bit of effort.

I'll share a picture of my loaf pan. As you can see, it's hard to miss the fact that there is ground beef ready to cook. For best results put it on a shelf eye level with your teenagers.

Happy thrifting,

Deanna
